The 5th CanHepC Annual Meeting took place in Montreal on February 27, 2020 gathering over 80 of our member investigators, knowledge users, collaborators, and trainees.

The Annual Meeting is a yearly opportunity for CanHepC members to gather in person to assess the network’s progress, discuss the different projects and future direction as well as engage which each other to develop collaborations.

This year, the main objective of the meeting was to brainstorm and plan ahead what will be the focus in terms of research priorities and projects for the next CanHepC funding cycle term. The network is ending its first cycle term in 2020 and we are currently preparing a CIHR renewal application for the next 5 year-term. Several research priorities and project ideas were discussed at the Annual Meeting. To enable cross-discipline discussions the attendees were randomly split into 4 groups (rather than by disciplines as previous years) each with the same mandate to identify themes or projects for the next 5 year-term. This gave way to fruitful discussions and brainstorming which were then share with the entire assembly again later on in the day.

The Annual Meeting also featured a keynote presentation from one of the 9th Canadian Symposium on HCV’s guest invited speaker Natasha Martin (University of California San Diego) on modeling to inform the change needed to achieve hepatitis C elimination. Several other subjects were discussed by the assembly including network administrative and financial matters as well as the training program and our knowledge translation platforms.

A report from the day was circulated to all CanHepC members.

Thank you to everyone present for making this day a great success!
